ABOUT

Ugi Agana is a multifaceted jazz drummer, percussionist, composer, recording artist and co-founder of the independent record label Agana Records.

Based in Los Angeles, Ugi has performed in various celebrated venues of the West Coast scene, including the San Jose Jazz Festival and Sam First. She has played with innovative emerging voices of the NYC and LA scenes such as guitarist Juan David Agana, altoist George Winstone and tenor saxophonist Peyton Pleninger.

She is currently producing, together with artistic partner Juan David Agana, the soon-to-be-released record Poemas de Alhelí. The project will include tracks that present a paradigm-shifting fusion of salsa with jazz, rock and psychedelia, as well as four orchestral movements, recorded by the Miami Symphony Orchestra.

Her relentless pursuit of elegant phrases coupled with a ferociously elastic time-feel and an undeniable intuition for the avant-garde stand at the front of her musical identity. Influenced early in her youth by the works of Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Prokofiev, and by poetic rock-lyricists of the 60's like Bob Dylan and John Lennon, Ugi has quickly established herself as a promising young drummer and composer, with a particular knack for jazz and tropical percussion.
